| About Prof. Stefan Rahmstorf

After completing his doctorate in oceanography at Victoria University of Wellington, Prof. Dr. Rahmstorf came to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research (PIK) via the New Zealand Oceanographic Institute and the Kiel Institute of Oceanography, where he is still active today.

Since 2000 he has held the professorship in "Physics of the Oceans" in Potsdam. In his function, he presents his research results in the fields of palaeoclimatology as well as ocean circulation. He also offers online lectures, which are offered in the e-learning programme of the Virtual Academy for Sustainability at the University of Bremen.

Rahmstorf also addresses the topic of global warming publicly, for example in exciting presentations as a keynote speaker or in the RealClimate blog, which he co-founded. In doing so, he always focuses on the current research situation and the most pressing questions of our time. For example, what happens now that the Paris Climate Agreement has been adopted and the USA has rejoined it? How do we get climate change under control now? What happens if we give in and the world's great rivers suddenly change their temperature?

The ecosystem is changing slowly and subliminally, but one thing is becoming apparent through the frequent extreme weather that has also hit Central Europe more and more in recent years: Climate change is already a phenomenon that reaches into all of our private lives. Rahmstorf is able to describe this circumstance perfectly and he does so in a demanding and stirring manner. Find out what solutions there are to stop and reverse climate change in the excellent lectures by oceanographer and climate researcher Rahmstorf.

"Prof. Dr. Rahmstorf gave us a great lecture. The team and I needed an orientation on climate protection - we couldn't have asked for a better presentation.
